Professional headshots are needed now more than ever. Do you have one?

This client works for a bank that is in the process of changing their brand to a more modern bank needed a headshot that would fit in the same renewed brand. We took her headshot on the white background so she would pop and have a more modern image but still photographed in a suit because it was appropriate for her profession.

Has your boss emailed you recently asking for a photo to put in a presentation or maybe even a display ad for your company? Or what about social media like LinkedIn where it’s vital to have a professional look that differs from Facebook?

It seems like a week doesn’t go by that I don’t get asked about professional headshots. It used to be that just big-time executives or actors needed headshots but now employees of all levels and industries are finding the need for a professional headshot.

When I have a new client needing a headshot, we discuss issues such as what to wear and location. We also discuss how the headshot will be used and what kind of image they need to portray in their industry.

This client works with insurance company so he needed to be friendly, approachable and professional. We achieved that with his final image which is more traditional.

Why does how the headshot will be used and the industry make a difference?

Remember when you were a kid and all the school photos were in front of that same funny-looking blue background? Mom didn’t mind so much as long as she had a cute picture of her child every year!

Headshots, for both adults and kids (yes, sometimes kids need professional headshots!) have come along way. We’ve all heard the cliche that pictures are worth a thousand words but in this case it’s true. Your headshot needs to be industry-specific because each industry has its own feel and image that must be conveyed. Does your headshot need to convey confidence? Trustworthiness? Stability? Innovation?

The background you choose, the facial expression and the clothes all are part of establishing the headshot’s message.

This client needed a headshot for her job in the supplier community. She dressed as though she would dress in the office which is not a suit jacket but still had a nice professional headshot. We used the gray background because it fit in better with the style other employees were using.
