Painting from a picture creates new, meaningful memories

LRP Photo Memories Collage

Pictures are a classic way to capture memories and chronicle important events in our lives such as a person’s senior picture or a family portrait. Pictures are also a beautiful starting point for a another kind of picture that can bring a new meaning to those memories.

Photography is a fantastic way to capture exactly how someone looks in that moment and painting is a artistic way to capture how we felt in that moment. I love how you can capture different aspects of the memory when going across mediums.

Companies such as Painting with a Twist offer the opportunity to do a custom painting from a picture of your pet. You can honor a pet that has died or enjoy the quirkiness of a current pet. My family and I recently joined friends in a Paint Your Pet party and we loved the results!

My son painted his impression of our family cat. He couldn't wait to hang it up in his room!

My husband painting a picture of a dog we used to have. It's so fun to see her like this!
I painted a portrait of the first pet Randy and I adopted together. It’s so fun to honor and paint her like this!

My friend took a picture I had taken of her dog and captured her unique coloring in this painting.

Creating your own painting from a photograph is fun but it’s also an amazing gift. I had the chance to meet Sharon Simmons, an artist, and was honored to have her take on a special project for me. I gave her a cell phone picture of me and my son, Declan, and we talked about the story and emotion behind the photo. With that, she created a beautiful painting from a seemingly simple photo.

The photo is my favorite image of my time with Declan, my son who was born premature. The photo of us during Kangaroo Care was taken with a cell phone from 2008 in a dark room so the quality is not good but it is a perfect example of capturing important moments however you can. My son passed away just weeks after this photo was taken. I wanted a painting that represented the emotion of the image and luck brought me to Sharon Simmons, a local artist. I told her she had freedom to whatever she wanted with the image and as you can see the watercolor piece turned out lovely.

What pictures would you love to have captured in a painting? Before photography was created, people had to sit for long, uncomfortable hours to have a portrait painted. Now, we have the option to have a professional photo shoot then have a painting created from those photographs.

I’d love to help get you started with the picture portion of your journey. Give me a call to schedule your professional photo shoot.
