I’ve been a member of the Network of Executive Women nearly three years now and have met many amazing women along the way. I have volunteered as their photographer for networking mixers and headshot photography for the regional leaders during this time as well. The organization inspires greatness through leadership in communities and the workplace. The majority of the attendees and members are women but men are welcome too! I’ve picked up numerous valuable tips through the local events and online leadership academy. We have some fabulous emerging women leaders in our community!
I am in my second year as the co-chair to the Mixer committee. In 2014 we will have eight Mixers each with a conversation starter theme. We find amazing venues in Northwest Arkansas to partner with to host the events and each Mixer has a local sponsor who provides funding, snacks and/or giveaways. I recently photographed our most popular Mixer to date! We partnered with Avondale Chapel in Bentonville and were very lucky to have a beautiful summer afternoon to enjoy the outdoors. Our Mixer was themed as a Lifestyle Mixer.
Attendees could choose from several lifestyle groups to mingle with others in a similar life stage and enjoy the fellowship. I participated in the Mid-Career. Other lifestyle groups were Empty Nesters, Married/Dual Career, Recent College Graduate, New Parents, and a few others.
Photographing an event is challenging because you want to get candid shots while people are in conversation but flattering to the subject as well. Tip: Take many shots and use continuous shooting mode so you can capture an image without blinking or mouth gaping open. I like to capture some images where people are posed for the camera too.
If you want more information on Network of Executive Women check out their website or connect with me. Many of the local events are free and open to non-members giving you the ability to try out the organization before joining. Many employers will pay for your membership as well.
