Whew! Do you ever just want to beg the merry-go-round to stop? I often feel like that and I work every day with people who know exactly what that’s like, including my clients!
This may seem like a strange thing to discuss on a photography blog, but we entrepreneurs and Northwest Arkansas business professionals need to stick together. I’ve learned that one of the best ways to network is to share our stories and help each other with information.
That’s exactly why I’m talking about how I manage a work/life blend without going too crazy! The thing is, between work at my corporate job, my NWA photography business, and being a mom, wife, daughter, friend and sister, I’m pretty busy. Add to that me finishing my MBA and planning my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary party and I’m completely exhausted.
I have to take things one day at a time and wear one hat at a time, which is very difficult on most days. Here’s how I stay sane and do the best I can do in each role:
-I’ve experimented with essential oils. I use the Surrender Oil, which keeps me balanced. My husband thinks it could be all in my head but who knows? It seems to work and that’s what matters most days.
-I recently had a less than fantastic day and I chanted #gladtobehere in car on my home which I learned after hearing John Foley speak.
“Gratitude is something we all relate to. It’s already present in your life, I guarantee it. Harnessing the mindset begins when you start to pay attention to it, and you start to actively express it,” Foley says in a recent blog explaining the #gladtobehere movement. “Let the world know, and rejoice in every moment.”
-I like to take on a lot of responsibility because I love to experience life and tend to over commit to things. I have learned to say no even though it is really hard to do sometimes. I’m a grown woman, I should be able to say no, right? We all know that it’s not that simple.
-When it comes to spending time with my kids, I do not say no if at all possible. My boys will be leaving the nest in just a few short years. They ask very little of me so when they need me or I need them I do all I can to show up.
Those are my four main tools for balancing and blending my work and home life. What secrets do you use? Share in the comments! And I would love to help take something off your list. Give me a call and we can get that professional headshot or family portrait you’ve been meaning to do taken care of!
