DWTS raises money for Amazeum and I love being involved

Do any of you watch the popular TV show Dancing with the Stars? Did you know there’s an annual fundraiser located right here in Northwest Arkansas that is modeled after that TV show using local celebrities?

The DWTS Northwest Arkansas event raises money for the new children’s museum, which is set to break ground in April. Aptly named Amazeum, this family learning center is coming to Bentonville after many years of planning, research and fundraising (more about that in a minute).

I think having a children’s museum is a perfect addition to Bentonville not only for residents but also tourists. We need more activities for children. The DWTS event is a unique way to raise money and I’m thrilled to volunteer by taking photos of the dancers for advertising and the red carpet as guests arrive for the main event.

Looking forward to Amazeum

People in NWA started planning a children’s museum in 2006 and since then, excitement has been building monumentally. The groundbreaking is expected to happen this April with an estimated completion in 2015. Amazeum will be on Northeast J Street in Bentonville, near the world-famous Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Amazeum will feature more than 45,000 square feet of interior space with an additional acre of outdoor space, which will create an environment for year-long learning, experiments and season-inspired experiences for kids of all ages.

This is the front entry of the Amazeum. The children's museum comes after a multi-year fundraising project. Signature Partners include: See and Linda Scott (presenting rights); Nickelodeon, Walmart Foundation, The Hershey Company, General Mills, and The Walmart Family Foundation. The Walmart Family Foundation provided a 1:1 matching grant for $10 million as well as the land where Amazeum will be constructed.
