As a mother, a business owner and a woman, I feel blessed to have the resources to help support my family. I’ve had strong women guide me and encourage me along the way and for that I’m grateful.

That’s why I love working with organizations that help women become self-sufficient and successful. This helps not only the woman, but her family as well.

One such organization in the area is Dress for Success Northwest Arkansas. This is the only Arkansas affiliate of a worldwide organization dedicated to helping women find economic independence. The local affiliate was founded in February 2013 and they opened their boutique in August.

I was honored to do headshots for the two co-founders and to also take some artistic photos in the boutique that are now used to share the affiliate’s message throughout Northwest Arkansas. I also donated two photo session gift certificates to their silent auction to celebrate the affiliate’s one-year anniversary.

A friend of mine who attended the anniversary party took this photo of some volunteers holding some of the pictures I took at the Dress for Success Northwest Arkansas boutique.

How you can get involved in Dress for Success

Dress for Success Northwest Arkansas works with local referral agencies to help women clients of those agencies find economic independence. When a woman is referred to Dress for Success and she has a job interview scheduled, Dress for Success helps her find a suitable interview suit for the interview. If she is hired, the client can return to the boutique and choose a week’s worth of business attire for her new job.

There is much more than “just the suit,” however. Starting this year, Dress for Success Northwest Arkansas will start offering a Career Center, mentoring and workshops for its clients.

I love being able to donate my photography talents to this organization and want to let you know about other opportunities for you to use your time and talents for the women of our community who are coming out of disadvantaged situations.

You can volunteer:

  • On the first Saturday of every month at the boutique (Frisco Station Mall in Rogers) starting at 9 a.m. They need help sorting donated items and light housekeeping at the boutique.
  • The biggest need right now is for daytime image consultants who work with the women as they search for just the right outfit.
